FIFA announces new changes that affect Premier League, La Liga

The Federation of International Football Association has issued a statement to dispel rumors surrounding the introduction of the ‘blue card’ at elite football levels, asserting that such reports are premature and inaccurate.

FIFA emphasized that any potential trials should commence at lower levels first, with careful consideration and responsibility.

“Any such trials, if implemented, should be limited to testing in a responsible manner at lower levels,” FIFA said.

International Football Association Board, the governing body responsible for determining the Laws of the Game in football, is reportedly considering the implementation of blue cards as part of sin-bin trials.

These blue cards would entail a ten-minute timeout for players committing cynical fouls or demonstrating dissent towards match officials.

The detailed protocols for the blue card trials are expected to be released soon, with a focus on curbing misconduct towards match officials.

The trials are slated to be tested during the forthcoming men’s and women’s FA Cups, although they will not feature in the English Premier League’s 2024/25 season, as reported by the Athletic.
