Nigerians have berated the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, for denying that his principal promised to make the naira equivalent to the dollar.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) was alleged to have said that he would make the Nigerian naira equal to the American dollar during his campaign in 2015 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, in Imo State.

However, Adesina who appeared on Channels TV last night denied that Buhari made such promise.

He blamed the rumour on political mischief makers.

“It does not exist, it is fake, it is false, it is apocryphal, it doesn’t.”

“If it’s said, there should be clips, publication. It was a conjuration by some people,” the Presidential aide noted.

Disappointed by his comments,  Nigerians have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure.

@FS_Yusuf_ said, “Femi Adesina denies the $1 =N1 promise. A very audacious attribute of the ruling class is their ability to deny their prominent campaign promises when they know they are failing. They do it so confidently not minding public reactions. This is a critical form of political theft.”

Another user, @UnclePauly wrote, ” You know when you have free money you can’t relate with reality. Does Femi Adesina knows that small indomie we bought N30 in 2015 is now N70, does he know that dettol soap we bought N60 in 2015 is now N350, When we hit the streets to protest again bullets won’t stop us.”

@Ejiamatu001 opened that “Listening to Femi Adesina can be depressing. The man lies with unmitigated equanimity,” while @Sunday_Akinjide added, “I don’t know how Femi Adesina sleeps at night knowing that he’d lie the following day. It’s still a mystery to me.”
