The Federal Government has decided to review the bribery charges brought against Olasupo Shasore, a former Attorney General of Lagos State.

This decision follows the recent favorable judgment for Nigeria in the legal case against Process & Industrial Developments Limited in a London court in October 2023.

According to the Nation, during the court proceedings on Friday, the prosecuting counsel, Bala Sanga, informed the court that the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation has requested a review of the case.

Sanga explained that the government’s decision stems from the successful outcome of the P&ID case, in which the London court quashed the $11 billion arbitration award in favor of P&ID.

“As a result of the judgment of the London Court, which I can call the ‘mother case’, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation has recalled all documents for a comprehensive review and we have a letter to that effect,” Sanga stated.

He subsequently requested an adjournment to allow the prosecution to await the outcome of the review. The defense counsel did not object to the request.

As a result, the court adjourned the matter until January 24, 2024, for further proceedings.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had initially arraigned Shasore in October 2022 on a two-count charge of allegedly bribing public officers. Shasore pleaded not guilty to the charges.
