The Federal Government has ordered a thorough investigation in response to the devastating explosion that rocked Ibadan, Oyo State, claiming three lives and leaving 80 individuals injured.

The Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, made this announcement in a statement on Wednesday, expressing condolences to the affected families and pledging support for the ongoing efforts.

Alake conveyed his sympathies, stating, “I am saddened by the news of the explosion that occurred yesterday night in Ibadan, Oyo State. The tragic incident had devastating effects on lives and property.”

He extended his condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde and the people of Oyo State, expressing sympathy for the wounded and other victims who suffered losses.

The Minister assured that the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals would actively participate in the investigations alongside the Oyo State Government to determine the actual cause of the explosion.

Alake emphasized the need to address the immediate and remote factors contributing to the incident.

He directed the ministry’s mine officers, already present at the site in Ibadan, to join the ongoing investigations.

Alake affirmed, “If the explosion was caused by mining explosive devices as earlier reported, the ministry will double its effort to tighten the noose around those acquiring explosives and storing them illegally.”

Commending Governor Seyi Makinde for the swift emergency response, including deploying fire service, police, and security agencies, Alake urged the public to prioritize safety and report any individuals or organizations endangering public health and security.
