The Federal Government has announced that the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos will be closed for 21 days, starting from Sunday, May 18, 2025, to allow for urgent repair works.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, made this known in a statement on Tuesday. She said the bridge would be closed from 7 a.m. on Sunday, with some sections fully closed and others partially closed during the repair period.
According to Kesha, the repairs will involve lifting the bridge deck to replace damaged bearings and carrying out other important maintenance tasks.
She explained that the work is aimed at improving the safety and comfort of motorists and pedestrians using the bridge.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but this is a necessary step to keep the bridge in good condition and ensure safety of all road users,” she said.
Kesha added that traffic would be diverted and officials would be present to help direct vehicles and reduce delays.
She also appealed to residents, commuters, and businesses in the area to cooperate and plan their movements ahead during the closure.
“Safety signs and traffic management tools will be put in place to minimise disruption,” she said. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank members of the public for their patience.”
The government urged all road users to follow instructions from traffic officers and stay informed during the period of the bridge closure.
