The Federal Government has announced plans to build 77,400 new homes across the country to help reduce Nigeria’s housing shortage.

The project, which is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, will include the launch of new “Renewed Hope Cities” in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, and provide housing in every local government area.

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, made this known in a statement released recently.

“Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are constructing 3,000 housing units each in Lagos, Abuja, and Kano for Renewed Hope Cities, and 250 housing units in each of the 36 states for the Estates,” Ata said.

He added, “Additionally, the social housing initiative will deliver 77,400 housing units, 100 in each of the 774 local government areas.”

According to him, 30 per cent of the new homes will be set aside for Nigerians who have no income.

“30 per cent of the 77,400 social housing units will be given to the non-income Nigerians,” he said. “President Tinubu maintained his stand on 30 per cent even when 20 per cent was proposed to him. That is commendable.”

The minister said the government welcomes support from private investors to make the plan a success. He confirmed that the ministry is open to working with Ms Allen Le and Partners International Investment Consulting Joint Company.

“We welcome potential collaboration in achieving this goal,” Ata said. “But we need to know exactly how we will partner with you. Make a formal proposal to the ministry showing where you want to come in.”

A visiting delegation led by Allen Ke Nam of SV-NED Incorporated showed interest in helping to build affordable homes. Nam also asked the government to provide land for the construction.

“The collaboration will lead to job creation and skill acquisition as new construction methods will be introduced,” Nam said.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore, welcomed the proposal and assured the investors of full support from the government.

This housing plan is part of the government’s larger effort to improve living conditions and boost development in communities across Nigeria.
