The Federal Government has announced plans to kick off the demolition of structures situated within the right of way of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road starting this Saturday.

According to reports by The PUNCH, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Korede Keisha, revealed this during a press briefing held in Lagos on Thursday.

Keisha urged residents whose properties fall within the designated area for demolition to visit the ministry’s secretariat in Lagos to address any necessary procedures required by the government.

She emphasized that the demolition team would initiate the removal of marked properties on Saturday.

“This press briefing is to create awareness for all those involved or have properties along that project corridor,” Keisha stated.

“We’ve issued demolition notices to those within the right of way, and we are inviting them to visit the secretariat from today at 3 p.m. until tomorrow.”

She stated, “From Saturday morning, anything within the right-of-way of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be demolished for the first three kilometres.”

The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, recently disclosed that the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road is expected to take eight years and cost N4 billion per kilometre. The entire 700 km road will cost N15 trillion, with each kilometer costing N4 billion.

The road project aims to connect Lagos to Cross River, traversing through Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states before reaching its terminus in Cross River.
