The Federal Government has fixed December 16 and 17 for the first Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival, set to hold at the Cricket Pitch, Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hanatu Musa Musawa, made the announcement on Tuesday in Abuja during a media briefing. She said the festival, organised by the ministry in partnership with Irabor Creative Minds, will add fresh energy to this year’s Detty December activities.

Musawa said the event will highlight Nigeria’s cultural strength, food traditions, music, dance, fashion and art. She explained that the festival reflects the ministry’s drive to use culture, art and tourism to grow the economy and unite the country.

She said, “The Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival is a testament to the boundless creativity and talent that Nigeria possesses. We want to use it as a gateway for national unity as we invite all Nigerians and visitors to join us as we showcase the best of our cuisine, music, dance, fashion and art.”

The minister thanked President Bola Tinubu for what she called his support for the creative sector. She noted that the President’s efforts to build an enabling environment for the industry have encouraged new cultural projects.

Musawa added, “Detty December is a popular cultural event originating from Lagos, and the federal government will provide all necessary support to ensure a safe, beautiful and culturally enriching experience for the international community and lovers of culture and creativity.”

She said Lagos was chosen as host city because of its strong global reputation in arts, culture and entertainment. She added, “This will be a bigger Detty December, and we envision a future where the Nigerian Foods and Culture Festival becomes a premier cultural event, attracting visitors from around the world to experience the richness of Nigerian culture.”

The Managing Director of Irabor Creative Minds, Jude Uwagbai, assured attendees of safety throughout the festival. He said the group is working closely with the Lagos State Lion Building Police Division to maintain a secure and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.
