The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has removed Ohieku Salami as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

The minister said Salami’s actions were “unbecoming of his office and violated established procedures.”

In a statement on Wednesday, the Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Folashade Boriowo, explained that Salami was dismissed following repeated unprofessional conduct, including the unlawful suspension of the Vice-Chancellor without following due process.

“Despite the intervention of the ministry and formal requests to rescind the unlawful suspension, Salami refused to comply,” the statement read. “He resorted to abusive and threatening behaviour towards the ministry’s directors, including the Permanent Secretary.”

Dr. Alausa stressed that Salami’s conduct undermined the ministry’s supervisory role and threatened the university’s stability.

“To restore proper governance and ensure the institution operates in accordance with the principles of law, due process, and accountability, the Honourable Minister has requested the appointment of a new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council for the university,” the statement added.
