The Federal Government has rewarded 17-year-old Nafisa Aminu from Yobe State with N200,000 for winning the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London.

Nafisa, a student of Nigerian Tulip International College, outperformed over 20,000 contestants from 69 countries, including native English speakers, to be named World Best in English.

At a recognition ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, praised her achievement, describing her as “a beacon of excellence and inspiration to Nigerian youths.”

“You are the future of Nigeria, and you have made us proud. For the first time in the history of our nation, we have one of the highest budgetary allocations to education,” Alausa said. “Each time we approach the President for support in the sector, his response has been a resounding ‘yes’ because he believes in you, the children of Nigeria. Your success gives us the confidence to ask for more, and we will continue to do so on your behalf.”

The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suiwaba Ahmad, also praised Nafisa’s effort and resilience.

“Nigerian youths can compete and excel globally. Nafisa has demonstrated that Nigeria is blessed and can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world. You are a shining example,” she said.

She urged Nafisa to view the achievement as a stepping stone to greater heights and commended her parents and teachers for laying a strong foundation for her success.

Responding, Nafisa thanked President Bola Tinubu, the education ministers, her school, and her family for their support.

“I am grateful for this recognition and for the support that made this achievement possible,” she said.

The Yobe State Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Abba Idris, also thanked the Federal Government for the gesture, noting that the state will continue to celebrate progress in education.
