The Federal Government has slashed the cost of dialysis treatment to N12,000 under the newly introduced Kidney Dialysis Subsidy scheme, down from the previous rate of N50,000.
This was made known by Mr. Alaba Balogun, Deputy Director and Head of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
He revealed that the pilot phase of the scheme has already commenced in 11 federal tertiary health institutions across all six geopolitical zones, with plans for expansion underway.
The participating hospitals include Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, University of Jos Teaching Hospital, National Hospital Abuja, and Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, Lagos.
Others are University College Hospital, Ibadan; University of Benin Teaching Hospital; Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa; Federal Teaching Hospital, Owerri; and Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki.
