The Federal Government has promised to ensure a stable power supply throughout the holy month of Ramadan, which began on Saturday.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, gave this assurance in his Ramadan message to Muslims across the country, acknowledging the challenges Nigerians face with electricity.
Adelabu noted that Ramadan often demands increased energy use, especially during pre-dawn meals (Suhoor), post-sunset meals (Iftar), and nightly prayers (Taraweeh).
“As the Minister of Power, I am acutely aware of the challenges that many Nigerians face, particularly in the area of electricity supply. I understand that the observance of Ramadan often requires increased energy consumption, especially during the pre-dawn (Suhoor) and post-sunset (Iftar) meals, as well as during nightly prayers (Taraweeh),” he said.
He assured Nigerians that the ministry is working hard to provide stable electricity during the fasting period and beyond.
“I want to assure the Muslim community that the Federal Ministry of Power is working tirelessly to ensure stable and reliable power supply during this holy month and beyond,” Adelabu added.
The minister also revealed the government’s commitment to improving power infrastructure and addressing issues like grid collapse.
“We are committed to improving the nation’s power infrastructure, addressing issues of grid instability, and expanding access to electricity for all Nigerians. Our goal is to ensure that every household can observe Ramadan with comfort and dignity,” he stressed.
Adelabu encouraged Muslims to use electricity responsibly by conserving energy.
“Small actions, such as turning off unnecessary lights, using energy-efficient appliances, and unplugging devices when not in use, can go a long way in reducing energy consumption and easing the burden on the national grid,” he noted.
He described Ramadan as a time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and devotion, urging Muslims to also engage in acts of charity and community service.
“Beyond the physical act of fasting, Ramadan is a time for spiritual renewal and personal growth. It is an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with Allah, seek forgiveness for our shortcomings, and strive to become better individuals,” he stated.
Adelabu also called for unity among Nigerians regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
“In the spirit of Ramadan, I also call for unity and harmony among all Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic differences. Nigeria is a nation blessed with diversity, and it is through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation that we can overcome our challenges and build a brighter future,” he added.
The minister urged Muslims to pray for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and development.
“To our Muslim brothers and sisters, I urge you to take advantage of this sacred month to pray for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and development. Let us beseech Allah to guide our leaders, strengthen our institutions, and bless our nation with abundant resources and opportunities,” Adelabu prayed.
