The Federal Government has announced a strategic partnership with Uganda Airlines aimed at significantly reducing air cargo costs and enhancing access to markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The initiative is expected to slash logistics expenses by as much as 50 to 75 per cent, including regulatory charges.

As part of the new arrangement, Nigerian goods will be linked to three major African trade hubs—Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa—creating an efficient air corridor to facilitate regional trade.

The development was revealed on Sunday by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, via her official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“We flag off a bold new pathway connecting Nigerian goods to the AfCFTA market through a strategic partnership with Uganda Airlines. The new air corridor will provide Nigerian exporters with access to three key African hubs, Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa,” she said.

According to the minister, the implementation of gazetted AfCFTA tariffs will enable Nigerian exporters to enjoy reduced rates, further supporting competitiveness in the continental market.

With inaugural flights already launched, the initiative will facilitate the export of various Nigerian products, including textiles, cosmetics, bags, and agricultural goods.
