The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday by the Ministry of Interior. It was signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and in other countries, urging them to remember the values of Eid-ul-Adha.

“As we celebrate this sacred occasion, I urge the Muslim Ummah to reflect on the essence of Eid-ul-Adha, which is rooted in sacrifice, obedience, and compassion,” he said.

The minister encouraged Muslims to follow the example of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), who showed great faith and obedience to God.

He also used the opportunity to call on Nigerians to pray for peace, unity, and progress in the country.

“These holidays are not just to mark a religious festival, but also to give Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on our collective journey and contribute to the nation’s development,” Tunji-Ojo stated.

He added that the government, under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, is working hard to improve the lives of all Nigerians.

“Together, we can restore Nigeria’s glory as a united and prosperous nation,” he said.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important Islamic festivals. It honours the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.
