The Federal Government has announced December 25 (Wednesday) and 26 (Thursday), 2024, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations. It also declared January 1, 2025 (Wednesday), as a public holiday for the New Year.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, shared the news in a statement on Monday in Abuja. She explained that the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the government.
The minister sent warm greetings to Nigerians, encouraging them to embrace the spirit of the season by reflecting on the values of love, peace, and unity.
“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo said.
He also urged Nigerians to use the festive period to strengthen family and community bonds and remain dedicated to the nation’s peace, unity, and progress.
“The Federal Government is committed to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity across the country,” he added.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he believes will bring economic growth and development in the new year.
While wishing citizens a merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025, the minister encouraged everyone to work towards a better and more harmonious Nigeria.
