FG declares christmas, new year celebrations

The Federal Government has officially declared Monday, and Tuesday, December 25 and 26, 2023, as well as Monday, January 1, 2024, as public holidays in celebration of Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, conveyed the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government.

In his statement, he extended felicitations to Christians and all Nigerians, both at home and in the Diaspora.

He stated, “The Minister wishes all Nigerians especially Christians a happy Christmas a peaceful and prosperous New Year celebration.”

Tunji-Ojo encouraged Christians to draw inspiration from the life of Jesus Christ, emphasizing humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness as exemplified by His teachings.

He underscored the crucial role of peace and security as prerequisites for economic development and prosperity, assuring that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, remains committed to implementing effective measures for the security of lives and property.

The minister urged Nigerians to maintain vigilance and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agencies.

He stressed the importance of discipline during the Yuletide season, emphasizing the need to safeguard lives and property in communities and the nation as a whole.

Tunji-Ojo admonished all citizens to remain focused that the year 2024 will be a better year with the Renewed Hope agenda of the President.
