The Federal Government has called for inter-ministerial collaboration to address the root causes of poverty and humanitarian crises, including insecurity, illegal migration, and human trafficking.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, made the call when she paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Interior, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in his office in Abuja.
Edu said that the collaboration would enable the government to get the required intelligence to coordinate and effectively administer any humanitarian crisis.
She also said that the synergy would help to expand the National Social Register to capture families and widows of ex-servicemen in the paramilitary organisation, as well as the inmates of the Nigeria Correctional Services, so that they can benefit from the skills acquisition programmes of her ministry.
Edu further stated that the government had recently approved the deployment of officers from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons to the different ports in the country.
She urged the Minister of Interior to work with her ministry to step up intelligence gathering and border security, in order to curb illegal migration and human trafficking.
Tunji-Ojo, in his response, welcomed the call for inter-ministerial collaboration and pledged the support of his ministry.
He said that the government was committed to addressing the root causes of poverty and humanitarian crises, and that collaboration was key to achieving this goal.
He also said that the Ministry of Interior was working to strengthen border security and intelligence gathering, in order to curb illegal migration and human trafficking.
The two ministers agreed to work together to address the challenges of poverty, humanitarian crises, illegal migration, and human trafficking.
