Jet Motor Company announced this on Monday, revealing that the buses run on both compressed natural gas and premium motor spirit.

The new buses are expected to offer affordable and comfortable transport options for Nigerians.

The handover took place at Jet Motor’s factory in Ajah, Lagos State. Officials from the Ministry of Finance and representatives from the Presidential Initiative for Compressed Natural Gas were present.

Technical Assistant to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dimas Hamidu, praised the quality of the buses. He said, “I am happy with what I have seen here. This will go a long way in alleviating the pain and suffering of the people with the removal of fuel subsidy.”

Hamidu highlighted that the buses are part of President Bola Tinubu’s effort to ease the impact of rising costs due to fuel subsidy removal. He added, “The vehicles will help address the transportation needs of citizens and cushion the economic impact.”

He also noted, “I was here earlier with the Minister of Finance, and we were taken around the plant. The minister even drove one of the vehicles and was very impressed.”

The Federal Government has awarded contracts for CNG buses to various companies. Hamidu commented, “Nigerians were becoming agitated and asking why they were not seeing these vehicles on the road. This is why the Ministry of Finance decided to tour the factories to see the delivery progress. We are impressed with Jet Motor for sticking to the contract terms.”

Derek Ewelukwa, Managing Director of Jet Motor Company, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. He explained, “Each hybrid vehicle has two CNG tanks with a total capacity of 220 litres of gas, enabling a range of 300 kilometres. The petrol tank holds 80 litres.”

Ewelukwa added that the CNG tanks have a 15-year lifespan, and the engine switches smoothly between gas and petrol.

The government hopes to receive more buses soon to further address transportation challenges in the country.
