The Federal Ministry of Education has launched the Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes Initiative, a nationwide digital learning programme aimed at giving Nigerian students better access to quality education.
The ministry, in a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, described the initiative as a major step to make learning accessible to every child. It said the programme aligns with the “Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.”
The statement explained that Inspire Live(s) was created to tackle long-standing problems in education, including a shortage of qualified teachers and interruptions to learning. By streaming live lessons directly to students, the ministry said the platform “democratises access to quality education and ensures that no child is left behind regardless of location or circumstance.”
Minister of Education Tunji Alausa confirmed that full implementation has started. He said the rollout “is underway, with expansion set to cover all classes from Primary 1 to Senior Secondary 3.”
Currently, the platform offers online lessons for Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) students. Classes run Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and are taught by “certified master teachers using Cisco Webex.”
Subjects for JSS students include Basic Science, Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Civic Education, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History, and Business Studies. SSS students can access lessons in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics.
To ensure nationwide reach, the ministry directed all state Commissioners for Education to appoint a “State Focal Officer to coordinate Inspire Live(s) activities” and share programme details with all public and private school principals. States were also instructed to equip designated schools with basic ICT tools and internet access.
The ministry added that registration must be done by school principals through Inspire support channels. The programme is open to all public and private schools across Nigeria.
