Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has provided reassurances regarding the consistent supply of gas to the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline venture.
Ekpo, heading a Nigerian delegation to Rabat, Morocco, engaged in discussions with Leila Benali, Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, along with other pertinent project stakeholders.
A statement released by Louis Ibah, the Minister’s spokesperson, conveyed Ekpo’s affirmation of President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to the project’s success. Ekpo underscored Nigeria’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted gas supplies, essential for the project’s operations upon its activation.
Ekpo highlighted Nigeria’s substantial gas reserves, currently standing at 209 trillion cubic feet, with potential reserves anticipated to reach 600 trillion cubic feet.
He articulated, “His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, is deeply invested in this initiative and will spare no effort to see it through to fruition. While it’s a long-term endeavor, its success is assured. I offer my guarantee to you and the people of Morocco that Nigeria will uphold its gas commitments.”
The pipeline, set to traverse multiple countries including the Republic of Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania, and ultimately terminating in Morocco with a spur to Spain, underscores Nigeria’s pivotal role in the regional and continental gas market.
Ekpo emphasized Nigeria’s significant involvement in marketing the product across Africa and the European Union, affirming that progress is on course. He urged both Nigerian and Moroccan representatives to maintain relentless efforts to meet project targets.
Benali, the Moroccan energy minister, expressed gratitude to Ekpo for Nigeria’s support in advancing gas monetization in Africa. She underscored the strategic importance of the pipeline, envisioning its potential to catalyze regional and continental development.
