An alleged potential rapist had part of his tongue removed after a female doctor he was trying to rape on duty bit off his tongue.

It was gathered that the doctor, 24, was in staff quarters at the hospital where she works in Bloemfontein, South Africa, when the alleged rapist attempted to sexually assault her.

According to Metro, she fought back when the man, 32, posed as a patient to get into the hospital and forced his tongue in her mouth while kissing her.

He has had to have part of his tongue removed as a result of the bite.

The suspect reportedly fled Pelenomi Tertiary Hospital and police alerted other hospitals to be on the lookout for him. Soon after he turned up at the National Hospital with horrific wounds to his tongue.

He was then taken to Universitas Hospital, which has a specialist plastic surgery unit, where he underwent surgery.

Health department spokesman Mondli Mvambi said:

“During the scuffle the doctor managed to bite off the tongue of the alleged perpetrator who ran off.

“He was later arrested and then taken for plastic surgery and was operated on under police guard and he we will be handed over to be taken before a court in due course.

“It is by the grace of God that the doctor had the strength to fight back and bite the suspect’s tongue off. She is currently undergoing medical tests and counselling.”

He will appear before magistrates when he has recovered enough.
