Federal Poly Nyak will concentrate on developing tourism, others – Governing Council
The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic Nyak, Shendam Local Government, Plateau, says it will focus on developing tourism, mining and agriculture.
The Chairman of the council, Mr. Sistus Abetianbe, gave the assurance when he led members of the council on a courtesy visit to Gov. Simon Lalong in Jos on Monday.
Abetianbe noted that Plateau had comparative advantages on the sectors which the institution would help boost through its various programmes.
He said the polytechnic which was established in 2021, was determined to contribute toward developing the potentials of its host state, while providing quality education .
“The state is famous for agriculture, mining and tourism.Our focus is to serve the people of Plateau state and Nigeria as a whole.
“We solicit the cooperation of everyone to discharge these duties,” the council chairman said.
He said the recently inuagurated council was in Plateau for an on-site assessment of the institution’s facilities, to enable it to commence academic activities in September or November .
The chairman thanked the governor for providing facilities to ensure the smooth take-off of the polytechnic, and assured him of the council’s commitement to best practices in the institution.
Responding, Lalong said his administration was committed to leaving enduring legacies in the state, especially in the education sector .
He said his legacy projects included establishment of primary and secondary schools as well as health institutions of international standard, some of which were at 80 per cent completion stage.
The governor said work was ongoing on the road network as well as in water and electricity supply in the polytechnic.
Lalong added that the institution would also be provided with a police station to ensure safety of students and staff.
He assured the council of his support to enable the smooth take-off of the institution.
The governor promised that areas which needed further intervention at the end of the assessment tour would be given urgent attention. —
