A Federal High Court in Abuja has found the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, guilty of terrorism charges filed against him by the Federal Government.

Justice James Omotosho, while delivering the judgment, resolved the three issues raised in the trial in favour of the prosecution.

The judge ruled that the violent threats issued by Kanu in his broadcasts instilled fear and anxiety in residents of the Southeast.

Justice Omotosho further held that, based on the prosecution’s evidence, the elements of terrorism were established through Kanu’s intention and conduct as shown in the exhibits tendered before the court.

He also noted that Kanu declined the opportunity to open his defence, stating that the defendant “failed and deliberately refused to give any exculpatory evidence” regarding the allegations.

The court is currently delivering judgment on the seven-count terrorism charges brought against Kanu.
