Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have recovered no fewer than 18 stolen vehicles, including two trucks, in a recent crackdown on criminal activities across Abuja.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, made the disclosure during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters on Friday.

He revealed that at least nine suspects connected to the vehicle thefts have been apprehended and will be prosecuted as investigations continue.

CP Adewale also recounted a case that helped unravel part of the syndicate. According to him, on April 30, 2025, a resident identified as Kelvin Okorie from Lugbe lodged a complaint with the command after falling victim to a robbery.

“He was dispossessed of N80,000 cash, two mobile phones, and other valuables. His ATM card was also seized, and a total of N2,700,000 was withdrawn from his account through POS operators,” the Commissioner explained.

Okorie had boarded a vehicle heading toward the Central Area, but was attacked at knife-point by the driver and an accomplice. The assailants not only robbed him of his belongings but went on to drain his bank account.

The police commissioner said the suspects were traced and arrested following “an intensive investigation by detectives from the Anti-One-Chance Unit ‘B’ and the Surveillance Team.”

CP Adewale assured the public that the command remains committed to fighting crime and bringing perpetrators to justice, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
