FCCPC summons Air Peace over ticket refund complaints

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has summoned Air Peace airline over complaints from passengers who said they were not refunded after their flights were cancelled.

In a statement on Monday, the FCCPC said many Nigerians across the country reported that Air Peace failed to return their money when flights they booked were not operated. This, according to the Commission, goes against the law that protects consumers.

The Commission said these actions break Sections 130(1)(a), 130(1)(b), and 130(2)(b) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018. These sections clearly state that passengers have the right to get back their money when a service they paid for is not provided by the company.

The Commission said, “This law supports fairness and protects customers from bad or dishonest treatment by service providers.”

The FCCPC also confirmed that it sent a formal letter to Air Peace management on June 13, 2025, asking them to appear before the Commission at its Abuja office on Monday, June 23, 2025.

It said, “Under Section 33(3) of the FCCPA, companies must obey this order. Failure to do so may lead to strong penalties, including fines or even jail time.”

Air Peace has also been asked to bring some documents, including: A list of complaints about refunds in the last 12 months, records of how many refunds have been completed, a list of all cancelled flights in the last 12 months and steps the airline has taken to reduce the stress caused to customers by cancelled flights

The Commission reminded the public that this is a separate issue from the one in December 2024, when the FCCPC began looking into claims that Air Peace raised ticket prices sharply for advance bookings on some local routes.

Back then, Air Peace took legal action to stop the Commission from continuing that investigation.

The FCCPC, however, said that the new summons is about refunds and has nothing to do with the earlier matter.

As of the time of this report, Air Peace has not released an official response.
