The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has announced investigations into MTN Nigeria, Air Peace Limited, and Guaranty Trust Bank following consumer complaints about poor service and exploitative practices.
FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, revealed on Sunday that the investigations will begin on December 3 with GTBank, followed by MTN on December 4, and Air Peace on December 5.
The inquiry into GTBank focuses on complaints of network failures that have left customers unable to access their funds or use banking applications. MTN Nigeria is being investigated for issues like undelivered data services, unexplained data depletion, and poor customer support. Air Peace faces scrutiny over high ticket prices for advance bookings on domestic routes.
“The inquiries are designed to provide a platform to address consumer concerns, clarify business practices, and enforce compliance with regulatory standards,” the FCCPC stated.
Ijagwu explained that the investigations are being conducted under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, which ensures consumer rights and fair competition in the marketplace.
“This action reflects the Commission’s commitment to safeguarding consumer rights, fostering a fair marketplace, and ensuring accountability across all sectors,” he said.
The FCCPC encouraged Nigerians to continue reporting instances of poor service or exploitative practices through its official channels, assuring them of prompt action.
Representatives from the three companies are expected to appear before the Commission on their scheduled dates to address the complaints and provide necessary information.
