A father and his two sons have been killed in a night attack on Zogu village in Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The spokesperson of the Irigwe Development Association, Sam Jugo, confirmed the attack in a statement made in Jos on Saturday, April 12.

According to Jugo, the victims — Weyi Gebeh, aged 56, and his sons, Zhu Weyi, 25, and Henry Weyi, 16 — were murdered while they were asleep in their home.

“The leadership of Irigwe Development Association has been notified of yet another attack on Zogu village, Miango, which claimed the lives of a father and two of his sons,” Jugo said.

He described the killings as “barbaric” and raised concerns about the continued violence in the area.

“This recent event brings to nine deaths recorded this week alone. IDA expresses its utmost displeasure on the deteriorating situation in Irigwe land and calls on the security agencies to do whatever is required to halt this barbarism and get the perpetrators arrested,” he said.

Jugo also suggested that the frequent attacks could have more dangerous motives beyond simple revenge, adding, “The way criminal elements invade our motherland and kill with impunity seems to suggest a more sinister motive than mere reprisals.”

He called on the Plateau State Government and security agencies to take urgent action to stop the killings.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, and the Plateau State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred are yet to give official statements on the attack.
