Fans fume as Solskjaer says United will not sign Fernandes but Sanchez will return to prove doubters wrong [Video]
With barely three days to the close of the January transfer window, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, riled up fans on social media with his comment on the club’s target Bruno Fernandes who many are anxiously expecting the club to sign before the close of the transfer window.
Solskjaer told reporters it was a waste of time even asking about Fernandes.
Fans have been waiting endlessly for the club to announce the Sporting Lisbon’s midfielder after the player has shown signs he is interested in a move to Old Trafford.
Though the Portuguese midfielder remains United’s top transfer target this month – but they are yet to reach an agreement with Sporting Lisbon.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi final second leg, Solskjaer knew he was set to face fresh questions about the Portugal international.
As one reporter prepared to ask a question, the Norwegian joked:
“You’re wasting it. So don’t ask it.”
United are adamant they will not meet the Portuguese club’s valuation of £55m plus £13m in add-ons for Fernandes.
They are prepared to pay closer to the £38m Tottenham bid last summer, with performance-related add-ons.
Solskjaer added:
“I haven’t got any updates for you on transfers. I think it was a waste (of a question). I gave you the option.
“I haven’t got anything to say now, my mind is on the game.”
As well as Fernandes, Solskjaer is also desperate to bring in cover upfront after Marcus Rashford suffered a double stress fracture of his back.
But with three days until the transfer deadline, United’s manager insists he will not be forced into any panic buys.
The latter part of his conference that has sparked criticisms from fans was his comment about the return of Alexis Sanchez.
“We’ve got players here we’re working hard to get back as well and if there is something out there the club is pursuing that,” he said.
“It’s difficult. I can’t remember how many good ones we’ve brought in and good deals in January.
“The clubs don’t want to lose their best players and Alexis (Sanchez) will come back in the summer and will prove us all wrong.”
Sanchez is presently on loan at Inter Milan and Solskjaer has revealed that United will recall him fromInter Milan in June.

Ole has officially lost the plot. Sanchez is really going to be treated like a new signing instead of signing players. #MUFC pic.twitter.com/OgndFOlXac

That Alexis Sanchez statement from Ole is fucking stupid.
Back to lie on his arse again and earn £400k a week then? Club is becoming a very long episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

LMAO Ole talks about Alexis Sanchez returning to Manchester United in the summer and proving everyone wrong but someone says ‘seriously’ at the end#MUFC

So Utd aren’t making a single signing then…
But don’t worry, we’ve already sorted our summer signing! Alexis Sanchez! Club of champions ? #mufc @ManUtd— Jay (@JayMac_____) January 28, 2020
– Alexis Sanchez “to return and prove us wrong” at the end of his loan spell
– Bruno Fernandes being linked with a move to Barcelona following a loan move to Valencia
– No sign of any other signing in midfield/up front to cover injuries.#MUFC pic.twitter.com/X0OGkQijZU— Karthik Shyamsundar (@MrKartShyam) January 28, 2020
I predicted that Manchester United won’t sign anybody this month and they won’t. The usual lines about January being a tough month to do business will be wheeled out. Alexis Sanchez will return in the summer and that’s about it. Maddison, Grealish and Sancho won’t sign too #mufc

The state of this club. Unbelievable. They won’t pay 5 million more for Bruno but will have a two-footed donkey in the form of Alexis Sanchez for 375k a week

Same here. It really hurts but I cant let go ?

He’s damned either way as far as I can see it. If they had a more vocal manager he would be sacked by now. The problems with Utd are too down and until that’s sorted we are fucked
