Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has on Monday called on God to help Nigeria as the country swings into recession.

This comes after official data showed that the country’s gross domestic product contracted for the second consecutive quarter since the recession of 2016, the worst since 1987 when GDP declined by 10.8 per cent.

“Q3 2020 Real GDP contracted for second consecutive quarter by -3.62 per cent,” Yemi Kale, the statistician general, said on Twitter on Saturday adding that the “Cumulative GDP for the first nine months of 2020, therefore, stood at -2.48 per cent.”

According to World Bank and NBS figures, this is the second recession under President Muhamadu Buhari’s democratic reign and his fourth as head of state.

The Punch reported on Nov 22 that amid the rising debt profile, inflation and unemployment, experts point accusing fingers towards COVID-19, #EndSARS violence, others for crisis.

Reacting to the state of things on his Twitter page, Fani-Kayode lament the country’s numerous issues, listing terrorism, genocide, poverty, amongst others.

The Peoples Democratic Party member concluded that the country is divided and unsafe, calling on God to “deliver us.”

“Nigeria going through worst recession in 36 years. Nigeria poverty & kidnap capital of the world. Nigeria has the 2nd & 4th most deadly terrorist orgs in the world. Nig. Army commits genocide at Lekki, Kaduna, Oyigbo & elsewhere. Nigeria divided & unsafe. May God deliver us,” he tweeted.
