The family of Isaac Alagbariya has accused the Rivers State Police Command of illegally arresting and torturing their son after officers allegedly broke into his hotel room at Osmosis Hotel along Ada George Road on the outskirts of Port Harcourt.

According to the PUNCH, Isaac’s elder brother, Asime Alagbariya, condemned the arrest, describing it as unlawful, and demanded Isaac’s immediate and unconditional release.

Asime recounted the incident, stating, “On August 5, 2024, men of the Nigerian Police Force, dressed in plain clothes, forced their way into our son and brother’s hotel room. Isaac Bristol Alagbariya was arrested and taken to an undisclosed location. The family only learned of the incident the following day because the hotel manager was allegedly collaborating with the police.”

Asime further accused the police and the hotel manager of confiscating Isaac’s personal belongings, including a diary containing sensitive information such as email passwords and cryptocurrency account details.

According to Asime, the cryptocurrency account held over 27,200 USDT, valued at approximately N43 million.

He also criticized a first-generation bank, accusing it of unlawfully releasing Isaac’s bank details to the police without his consent.

“We are disappointed with the bank for allegedly providing a photograph of Isaac through his BVN, in an attempt to link him to the PIDOM X account,” Asime said.

When contacted, Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, denied that the state command was involved in the suspect’s alleged arrest.

She said it was carried out by the Force’s Anti-Fraud Unit from Abuja, adding, “It was the Anti-Fraud Unit from Abuja that carried out the operation. So, I will advise that you contact the Force Public Relations Officer.”
