Rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, known as Falz, has urged President Bola Tinubu to step down, saying the government has failed to protect Nigerians amid fresh cases of killings and abductions.

Falz made the call on Wednesday in a post on X after the abduction of 25 students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, and the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State.

In his post, Falz referenced a message Tinubu wrote in 2014 while in the opposition, when he told former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over insecurity.

Quoting Tinubu’s words, Falz posted, “You have consistently shown your unwillingness to protect the lives and property of our people despite pretending to care in the past. RESIGN NOW!”

The 2014 message cited by Falz was shared by Tinubu seven months after the Chibok girls were kidnapped. At the time, Tinubu wrote, “Why should any part of this country be under occupation? In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign.”

Tinubu also made similar remarks during a speech in Ilorin in 2014, accusing the Jonathan government of failing to handle the Boko Haram crisis.

According to him then, “I saw the sea of displaced persons caused by the Boko Haram insurgents and the lies coming from Jonathan’s administration. They have exhibited failure, lack of capacity, vision, creativity; the lie of yesterday is what they repeat today and it is what they will repeat tomorrow.”

He added, “If you control the armed forces and you are the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic, why should any part of this country be under occupation? And you give us excuses every day. In any civilized country, Jonathan should resign. But if he will not resign, he should wait for our broom, we will sweep them?”

Falz’s criticism comes as public anger grows over renewed attacks across the country.

Gunmen had stormed the Kebbi school on Tuesday, killing a vice principal and abducting 25 students.

Also, a Kwara state community came under attacks by gunmen who entered the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku during a special service and opened fire on worshippers killing seevral people on the spot and abudcting others.

Another assault was reported along the Ilorin–Kabba Road, where travellers and residents were ambushed. Many people fled into surrounding bushes to escape the gunfire.

The incidents has triggered widespread outrage and renewed calls for stronger action on security.
