Nigeria’s Falconets secured their place in the Round of 16 at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup with a commanding 4-0 victory over Venezuela on Saturday night at the Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero in Colombia.

The Nigerian team, coached by Christopher Danjuma, dominated the match from the outset. Amina Bello opened the scoring in the 16th minute, assisted by Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, who then doubled the lead with a header in the 28th minute. Flourish Sebastine added a third goal just before halftime, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Venezuela.

The Falconets put the match beyond doubt in stoppage time when substitute Joy Igbokwe fired in a stunning long-range goal with the final kick of the game.

This victory marks Nigeria’s second win in three Group D matches, giving them six points—equal to group winners Germany. However, Nigeria finished second due to an inferior head-to-head record and goal difference.

Nigeria will now prepare to face the top team from Group E, either Japan or Austria, in the Round of 16 on September 13.
