The Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad has arrested a 42-year-old man, Kingsley Wanogho, for impersonating a military officer, abducting a young man in Ikeja, and stealing his iPhone 13.
Wanogho, reportedly a dismissed army sergeant and ex-convict, was apprehended on Saturday after one of his victims identified him near Computer Village in Ikeja.
In a statement shared on X.com, the RRS revealed that on December 30, 2024, Wanogho accused his victim, Solomon, of bumping into him and claimed he lost a gold ring during the encounter. He allegedly demanded Solomon replace the ring.
The suspect reportedly showed a fake military identification card and threatened to take Solomon to an army barracks in Oshodi if he couldn’t provide the ring.
According to the police, Wanogho called an accomplice riding a motorcycle to help transport Solomon. Instead of heading to the barracks, they diverted to the Third Mainland Bridge, where they stole Solomon’s iPhone 13 and money before abandoning him.
Investigations revealed that Wanogho sold the stolen iPhone 13 for N150,000 in Computer Village, Ikeja.
Recovered items include a fake Nigerian Army identity card and a Nigerian Army fez cap, which Wanogho reportedly used to deceive his victims.
The RRS stated, “Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect on 30th December 2024 accused his victim of stumbling on him. He claimed he lost a gold ring in the process and demanded that the victim must produce the ring. Wanogho then claimed to be a military officer and threatened to take his victim to the Oshodi Army Barracks if he didn’t comply.”
The police added that Wanogho has been transferred to the Commissioner of Police’s Special Squad for further investigation.
