A self-proclaimed site engineer and housing agent, Babatunde Habeeb, was on Thursday sentenced to 1,230 years imprisonment by a Lagos High Court in Igbosere for defrauding 101 prospective tenants of the sum of N28 million.
The convict scammed 101 accommodation seekers under the pretext of renting them 13 apartments in a building at Alapere-Ketu, Lagos.
Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye found Habeeb guilty of 82 counts of conspiring with his elder brother, Alhaji Ishola Salaudeen, and obtaining the N28 million under false pretence.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s prosecutor told the court that Alhaji Salaudeen, who owns the property, is currently at large.
Justice Ipaye while delivering her judgement said the EFCC proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
The convict reportedly committed the offences in 2013.
