One of the Facebook users accused of defamation against gospel artist Nathaniel Bassey and fellow singer Mercy Chinwo, Kingsley Ibe, has issued an apology for his actions.

Last week, Bassey filed a petition against Ibe and three others, alleging that they spread false information claiming Bassey was the father of Chinwo’s child, which caused a stir online.

In response, Ibe has publicly apologized to both Bassey and Chinwo, expressing regret for his “reckless” statements. He emphasized that his apology was sincere and not made under duress.

“To you Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, I express my sincere apology for the comment I made on social media and to your family as well. I know the damages it has caused and I take full responsibility, and I am deeply sorry from the bottom of my heart,” Ibe said in an apology video released on Monday.

He also extended his apology to Bassey’s fans, followers, and ministry, acknowledging the harm his comments may have caused.

Additionally, Ibe apologized to Mercy Chinwo and her family, recognizing that his words might have far-reaching implications. He expressed remorse for any negative impact his comments may have had.

“I know I don’t deserve your mercy, but I am deeply sorry, and I ask you to forgive me,” he said, addressing Chinwo directly.

Ibe’s apology comes after he turned himself in to police custody and provided a statement, along with evidence, for potential prosecution over allegations of criminal defamation and cyber-related offenses.

In response to Ibe’s apology, Bassey’s legal representatives stated that he had shown true repentance for his actions and expressed a commitment to turning a new leaf. They also extended forgiveness and fellowship towards him.
