A magistrate court in Ilorin, Kwara State, has ordered the remand of Abdulrahman Bello, also known as the “Facebook killer-lover,” at the Oke-Kura Correctional Centre for allegedly killing a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education.
Magistrate Sanusi B. Mohammed adjourned the case till March 6, 2025.
Bello, who was arraigned with five others, had no legal representation in court. They were accused of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, possession of human parts, and armed robbery.
The police prosecutor said the charges are against sections 97 and 221 of the Penal Code Law, section 2 of Kwara State’s Prohibition Law on Dealing in Human Parts (Law 4 of 2018), and section 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act CAP R11 of the Nigerian Constitution.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Bello, who claimed to be an Islamic cleric, worked with his co-accused to carry out the crime.
The other suspects arraigned with him are Ahmed Abdulwasiu (41), an Islamic scholar; Suleiman Muhyideen (28), a businessman; Jamiu Uthman (29), a phone repairer; and Abdulrahman Jamiu (31), a farmer. Two other suspects are still on the run.
The police report stated: “During investigations, Bello confessed that he committed the crime with the knowledge and approval of the other accused persons. They all belong to the same occultic group.”
The report added that the group had been involved in killing unsuspecting victims in Kwara for ritual purposes.
According to the police, the case was reported by the victim’s father, Adefalu Lawal Ibrahim, who said his daughter, Adefalu Hasfat Yetunde, left home on February 10, 2025, for a friend’s baby-naming ceremony but never returned.
After calling her multiple times without an answer, her worried family contacted her friends, who said she had gone elsewhere after the event. When she remained unreachable, her father reported the case to the police.
Investigators traced the victim’s phone to Bello, leading to his arrest.
“Upon arrest, Bello voluntarily confessed to killing Yetunde and cutting her body into pieces for ritual purposes,” the police report stated.
Some of the victim’s body parts were recovered from Bello’s house, while others were found where he had dumped them.
The police also found Yetunde’s stolen jewellery and valuables in his room.
The suspects remain in custody while the investigation continues.
