A former governor of Yobe State, Abba Ibrahim, has passed away after battling a prolonged illness that led to his withdrawal from public life.
He breathed his last in a hospital in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, according to a family source who chose to remain anonymous.
The demise occurred on Sunday, and in accordance with Islamic customs, he was promptly laid to rest in Saudi Arabia.
Born in 1949, Bukar Abba Ibrahim, as he was known, had a distinguished political career. He served as the governor of Yobe State twice, first during the period from January 1992 to November 1993 in the Third Republic and later from May 29, 1999, to May 29, 2007.
In addition to his gubernatorial roles, Ibrahim also represented the Yobe East senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate from 2007 to 2011.
A staunch member of the All Progressives Congress Abba Ibrahim’s political influence extended beyond his time in office. His commitment to his party and the political landscape of Nigeria was unwavering.
The former governor is survived by two wives and 17 children, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to his constituents and the nation at large.
