Former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adolphus Wabara, has called for the immediate dismissal of the Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Muheeba Dankaka, over allegations of corruption and job racketeering.
According to the PUNCH, Wabara shared his personal experience during a visit to the FCC, where he requested job placements for his constituents but was told that bribes were required to secure the positions.
“I physically went to the FCC, requesting two or three jobs for some people in my wards. You will not believe that up till now, nothing has been done for the simple reason that I have not dropped any money,” Wabara revealed, adding that it had become evident jobs were being sold.
This is not the first time allegations of job racketeering have surfaced regarding the FCC.
During a public hearing by the House of Representatives Committee investigating the matter, several witnesses testified that they paid bribes to a former FCC officer, Haruna Kolo, who allegedly passed the money to Dankaka.
Despite these serious allegations, the committee, led by Yusuf Gagdi, has yet to release its findings, sparking concerns that the investigation may have been suppressed due to the involvement of influential figures.
Wabara criticised the APC-led government and the National Assembly for their failure to address the corruption allegations, comparing it to the swift action taken against former Minister Betta Edu in a separate corruption case. He accused the ruling party of turning a blind eye to rising corrupt practices under its administration.
Attempts to reach Gagdi for a response were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to him went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
