Jonathan, in a goodwill message on Saturday in Abuja, described Wike as a courageous man committed to promoting peace and upholding the unity of the nation.
“You are a hardworking leader, who is committed to improving the welfare of the people through service delivery and good governance.
“All who have visited Rivers in recent time can attest to your transformational strides and the fact that the state is making tremendous progress under your leadership.
“As a governor of Rivers, you have displayed great courage and wisdom in protecting the interest of your people, promoting peace and upholding the unity of Nigeria,” he said.
Born on 13 March 1963Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor, Rivers State, Wike became the governor of Rivers in 2015, succeeding Rotimi Amaechi.
The People’s Democratic Party member graduated from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology.
He was appointed Minister of State for Education on 14 July 2011 and was later appointed the Acting Minister of Education after Mrs Ruqqayatu was sacked but resigned before finishing his term to campaign for Governor of Rivers State.
Wike was reelected in 2019 when the Independent National Electoral Commission- INEC declared him the winner of Rivers State governorship polls on Wednesday, 3 April 2019, after suspending the process for some days. Wike took his oath of office on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. (NAN/WuzupNigeria)
