A former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Major General Maharazu Tsiga (retired), has regained his freedom after spending 22 days in captivity.
Tsiga was released on Friday, February 28, 2025, though the exact circumstances of his release remain unclear.
According to a source who spoke to Channels Television, the former NYSC DG is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.
The gunmen who abducted Tsiga were reportedly led by a notorious bandit kingpin known as Babaro. They had earlier demanded a ransom of N250 million for his release. However, it is not yet known if any money was paid to secure his freedom.
Government officials and security agencies, including the Katsina State Police Command, have not yet made any official statements regarding Tsiga’s release.
It would be recalled that Tsiga was kidnapped on February 6, 2025, at his residence in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. During the attack, two people sustained injuries, while one of the bandits was accidentally shot dead by a member of his own gang.
