Ex-NFF president Brigadier-General Oneya is dead
A former President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Brigadier General Dominic Oneya (retd.), has passed away.
The PUNCH reports that Oneya died at the age of 73 on Thursday morning in his home at Effurun GRA in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
“Yes, he is dead,” the current NFF president Amaju Pinnick confirmed Oneya’s death.
Born on May 26, 1948, Oneya, who hailed from Agbarho Kingdom in Ughelli, was in charge of the NFF (which was formerly known as Nigeria Football Association until 2008) from 1999 to 2002.
He served in various capacities in CAF committees and recently headed the Ministerial Committee on Reforms in Nigerian Football
Oneya was from 1996 to 1998 military administrator of Kano State.
The late army general was also the military administrator of Benue State during the reign of Abdulsalami Abubakar between 1998 and 1999.
