Former Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Steve Ayorinde, will oversee the curation of a three-day photo exhibition commemorating PUNCH Newspapers’ 50th anniversary tomorrow.

The exhibition, featuring iconic photographs from the newspaper’s archives, forms part of the celebrations marking PUNCH’s golden jubilee.

The jubilee commenced last Saturday with a novelty match at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos

Established in March 1973, PUNCH reached the milestone of 50 years on March 18 last year. However, due to the proximity to an election month and year, the board of directors decided to postpone the anniversary celebration to this year.

The three-day photo-story exhibition, held at the Alliance Française de Lagos/Mike Adenuga Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos, will present 100 iconic photographs that depict Nigeria’s rich history and its people. It will also highlight the significant role the media house has played in shaping the country’s history.

In a statement titled “Timeless Lenses: A Newspaper’s Visual Journey Through Nigeria,” Ayorinde, a former editor of The PUNCH, emphasized the importance of both the newspaper’s birthplace and its current Magboro permanent site. These locations serve as integral parts in narrating the visually captivating story of PUNCH Newspaper’s 50-year journey through Nigeria.

Ayorinde underscored that the commemorative photographic exhibition would encapsulate various snapshots of history, showcasing how PUNCH has served as a socially conscious and people-oriented news organization throughout its existence.
