Former Labour Minister Chris Ngige is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged fraudulent activities involving a parastatal linked to the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity during his tenure.

The former Anambra governor was taken into custody on Wednesday and is being held at the EFCC’s Abuja zonal office in Wuse, where investigators are questioning him.

“Mr Ngige is currently being interrogated at our Abuja zonal office,” according to Peoples Gazette.

“The commission is investigating some fraudulent transactions running into billions, which were carried out in one of the parastatals under the Ministry of Labour while Ngige was minister.”

The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, has been contacted for comment.

This is not the first time Ngige has faced scrutiny over alleged corruption. While serving as minister, he was previously questioned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission regarding alleged contract irregularities and claims of job racketeering at the Social Insurance Trust Fund, a parastatal under his ministry.
