The former Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Enema Paul, has died in Abuja.

Paul, who was representing Okura State Constituency in the current 8th Assembly, passed away in the early hours of Saturday at a private hospital in Abuja after battling an undisclosed illness.

His death was confirmed in a statement by the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Aliyu Yusuf, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mohammed Yabagi.

In his tribute, Yusuf described Paul as a humble and committed public servant. “The former Deputy Speaker was a man who exemplified a commitment to the unity of the state, having demonstrated a genuine desire to enhance pro-people legislation for overall development,” he said.

Yusuf also noted Paul’s strong Christian faith and commitment to family values. He prayed for strength for Paul’s family and colleagues in the Assembly to bear the loss.

Paul had stepped down from his position as Deputy Speaker due to health issues and was succeeded by Comfort Nwuchola, who represents Ibaji State Constituency.

The Kogi State Government also expressed its condolences in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo.

“The Government of Kogi State mourns the passing of Hon. Enema Paul, who succumbed to a protracted illness in the early hours of today. Paul served the people of Kogi State with great dedication,” Fanwo said.

Fanwo highlighted Paul’s distinguished career, noting that he was a former Commissioner for Rural Development, a one-time Deputy Speaker, and a sitting member of the Assembly.

The state governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, also expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He described Paul as a detribalized leader who embodied hard work, unity, and a commitment to the progress of Kogi State.

“Hon. Paul’s death is a heavy blow not only to his family and Dekina Local Government Area but also to the entire state,” Governor Ododo said.

The government promised to support Paul’s family during this difficult time, adding, “Our hearts go out to his immediate and extended family, the people of Dekina LGA, and all those touched by his life of service.”
