Ex-football chiefs, celebrities detained in Turkey crime probe

At least 16 individuals, among them notable names from business, sports, and entertainment, have been taken into custody as part of an investigation led by prosecutors in Istanbul, according to Turkish media reports.

Those detained reportedly include former Beşiktaş J.K. president Fikret Orman and former Galatasaray S.K. president Burak Elmas.

Other prominent figures named in the case include Hande Erçel, Hakan Sabancı, and Didem Soydan.

The Istanbul prosecutor’s office said the investigation centres on allegations including drug production and trafficking, facilitating drug use, possession of narcotics and encouraging prostitution.

Authorities have also issued arrest warrants for seven individuals, including Mr Orman and several of the high-profile figures named in the investigation.

Police have already taken Mr Orman into custody, while operations related to the case are ongoing.
