A former senator who represented Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi, has passed away.
As at the time of filing this report, details surrounding the circumstances of his death had not been disclosed.
Reacting to the news, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed profound sadness over the demise of the former lawmaker, describing it as a significant loss to Delta State, the Anioma nation and the country at large.
In a condolence message released through his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori said Senator Nwaoboshi was a distinguished son of Delta State and a fearless advocate of the Anioma cause, noting that his contributions to national development would not be forgotten.
The governor reflected on the late senator’s tenure in the National Assembly, where he served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, stressing that his firm voice and consistent advocacy for the growth of the Niger Delta and Delta State set him apart as a devoted and passionate leader.
Oborevwori further noted that Nwaoboshi’s political career and ascent were anchored on a strong political background, selfless service and firm belief in democratic principles, which also earned him the opportunity to serve creditably as a two-time Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State.
According to the governor, the deceased dedicated his life to serving his people, his political party and the nation, leaving behind a legacy marked by courage, loyalty and commitment to public service.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of my dear friend, Senator Peter Onyelukachukwu Nwaoboshi,” Oborevwori said.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the people of Anioma nation, members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, and all those whose lives he touched.
“I pray that Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest and gives his family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
