Former African Development Bank President, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, has expressed sadness over the deaths of former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
In a message on his X handle, Adesina described Buhari as a loving and dedicated patriot. He said, “I am greatly saddened by the passing of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari. Thank you for your leadership, patriotism and selfless service to Nigeria. May God comfort your dear wife and family. May your soul rest in peace.”
Buhari died on Sunday evening at the age of 82 in a UK hospital. His body was returned to Daura, Katsina State, for burial according to Islamic rites.
Adesina also paid tribute to Oba Adetona, who ruled Ijebuland for over six decades before his passing. He said the monarch served with wisdom and dignity.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Kabiyesi Ọba Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna, the Awujale of the Ijebu Kingdom. Kabiyesi ruled with strong commitment, remarkable dedication and impressive service, ensuring peace, unity, stability and progress across Ijebuland and Ogun State,” he wrote.
He prayed for comfort for the royal family, the Ijebu people and the Ogun State government.
