The African Democratic Congress presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Dumebi Kachikwu, has alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is attempting a strategic takeover of the ADC to further his 2027 presidential ambition.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Kachikwu claimed that Atiku and other political figures are using deceptive means to influence both Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, and the leadership of the ADC in order to gain control of the party.
“I had warned that a group of mostly old former political officeholders were executing a carefully orchestrated agenda to take over the ADC to prosecute Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition come 2027.
“I also warned that Peter Obi and other presidential hopefuls in this coalition of geriatrics were being duped, as Atiku’s men had been carefully positioned to take over the ADC party structure across the country,” he said.
Kachikwu alleged that Obi is under pressure to accept a vice-presidential slot under Atiku, claiming that allies of the former vice president have been strategically placed in the party’s national and state structures to tighten their grip on the ADC.
He further accused Atiku of lacking genuine support for the South, asserting that the former vice president does not believe any southerner is deserving of the presidency.
