The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool, scheduled for Saturday, December 7, has been postponed due to safety concerns caused by severe weather from Storm Darragh.

The match, originally set to kick off at 12:30 GMT at Goodison Park, was called off after an emergency meeting involving officials from both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council.

The decision followed strong winds and an amber severe wind warning, which will remain in effect until Sunday morning.

Everton released a statement apologizing for the inconvenience, saying, “We apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank supporters for their understanding. The safety of fans, staff, and players is of paramount importance. Information about a rearranged date will be announced soon, and all tickets purchased will remain valid for the new date.”

Liverpool echoed similar sentiments, stating, “We appreciate this will be deeply disappointing for supporters, but safety must come first. Severe weather and high winds have also caused major travel disruptions across Merseyside.”

Storm Darragh has created chaos across the region, with gale-force winds making travel dangerous and forcing the postponement of various events, including rugby matches and horse races. Merseyside Police advised against non-essential travel, emphasizing safety during the amber warning.

The Premier League will announce a new date for the match soon. Fans are urged to retain their tickets, which will still be valid for the rescheduled fixture.
