Denmark suffered a 1-0 defeat to Finland on Saturday after a horrific accident in the first half saw the game suspended for about an hour in the Baku Stadium.

WUZUPNIGERIA reported that the atmosphere was tensed following the sudden collapse of Danish midfielder, Christian Eriksen, four minutes to halftime, requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation before being taken off the pitch on a stretcher.

English referee, Anthony Taylor, immediately called medics on to the pitch and Eriksen underwent prolonged treatment with compressions performed on the chest of the Inter Milan player before he was taken to hospital, according to Sky Sports.

The match subsequently resumed following the request made by players of both teams, according to a statement from the European football governing body, UEFA, after revealing that “the player is now in hospital and in a stable condition.
UEFA wishes Christian Eriksen a full and speedy recovery and wishes to thank both teams for their exemplary attitude.”

The first half ended goalless and both sides remained inseparable for almost an hour as the fans from both teams cheered the name of recovering player, Eriksen, as a sign of solidarity.

Denmark were less threatening after the resumption but Joel Pohjanpalo broke the deadlock in the 59th minute of the second half after picking up an assist from J. Uronen to take the game 1-0 in favour of Finland.

Denmark had a golden opportunity to steal a draw towards the end of the match when they were awarded a penalty with 18 minutes remaining as Poulsen went down after a slight clip from Paulus Arajuuri.

Tottenham midfielder, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, squandered the opportunity by kicking the ball into the hands of Lukas Hradecky as the game ended 1-0 at the Parken Stadium in Denmark.
